On the 24th November online meeting “Exploratory mission to Chile” took place. The event titled “Lightweight for Mobility” was organised within the framework of ELCA Internationalization by Advanced Materials Cluster of Catalonia.
The event aimed to find possible fields for cooperation between the European and Chilean markets in the use of lightweight materials in the mobility sector, such as automotive, aerospace & aeronautics, rail and maritime.
At the beginning of the meeting, the European Lightweight Cluster Alliance and The European ELCA Internationalization project were presented. There was also a review of project partners that are the part of the consortium:
• Netzwerk Automobilzulieferer Sachsen
• Bydgoszcz Industrial Cluster Tool Valley
• Clust-ER Meccatronica e Motoristica
• POLYMERIS
• MAV Cluster.
After that there was a time for Chilean speaker: Thaïs Pascual, ACCIÓ’s consultant. He presented the services offered by the ACCIÓ and emphasised the value of the trade cooperation between Chile and the European Union. The second presentation was moderated by Ferran Amago, Executive Director, form Cámara Oficial Española de Comercio de Chile.
Then, there was a time slot for the presentations of material product solutions for weight reduction in the mobility sector, prepared by five companies: EURECAT, RIMSA, ATE Composites, KAPlast and Crossfire Srl. Among the topic were presented for example Low Emission Lightweight One-Life Mechanical braking for Future Mobility and The Circular Economy sustainable approach to mass Lightweight Composites production.
The solutions were set out by three members of the MAV Cluster, who unanimously stated that reducing the weight of materials used in the mobility sector is necesarry to decreasing CO2 emissions in the future. At the end of the meeting it was time for a Q&A session.
