On 10th January the ELCA Internationalization partners met in Dubai for the mission to United Arab Emirates, taking the opportunity to get the lightweighting topic on the EXPO stage.
In the early morning of Monday, the ELCA internationalization delegation left from Dubai to visit the Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi. Especially, the mission composed in presence by MECH, AMZ and MAV, arrived in Abu Dhabi to deepen the understanding and knowledge of the research and works of the Aerospace Research and Innovation Center, led by professor Wesley Cantwell.
The visit offered the opportunity to gain insights on current projects, focussing – on the top of all – on Additive Manufacturing and Composites Materials for improving efficiency’s application in the fields of aeronautics and aerospace .
After the guided tour of the Lab’s facilities and the presentation of the activities of the different partners, the ELCA internationalization delegation came back and joined the rest of the group at the Austrian Pavilion within EXPO 2020 to continue with the second session of the mission: the hybrid workshop “Lightweight for sustainability”.
The workshop intended to present lightweight solutions created or developed by partners members, mainly SMEs, with a specific attention to the environmental impact that technologies can bring to the market.
Among the different speakers, moderated by Katharina Schoeps – coordinator of the project – audience had the opportunity to gain new perspectives in different topics: from multi-material ultralight components for structural applications to the use of natural fibres in composites materials.
Here is the list of the speakers:
